Sex Drive Becoming a Problem

Dr. Doug Weiss - 11/12/2007

My sex drive is becoming huge issue in my current relationship. Ever since I was a toddler would masturbate. There are times in which I can control myself and others when I have to use the rest room at work, on the bus ride home in order to feel relaxed. I haven't been faithful in past relationships due to my needs and also the way I was treated. I have met a wonderful man who loves me in such a beautiful and in the beginning our sex life was very satisfying. It's a year and a half later and for the past 6 months it's caused problems. I feel rejected when he doesn't want me and he feels pressured. He's not as adventures as he use to be and to be honest it's become boring at times. I don't know how to control my needs and the strange thing is I don't want anyone else. We've talked so many times about things we can do to fix the problem, which is mine, but it doesn't seem to work out in the end. I've learned to go a week with out intercourse and it's very tough. Please any advice would be great.

You can solve the difference in sex drives by setting up a sexual agreement as found in Intimacy: A 100 Day Guide to Lasting Relationships where you compromise a sexual frequency and stick with that. You can also create what is acceptable sex acts for the two of you. You might have to evaluate your desire to have object type sex versus relational intimate sex. A healthy man wants connection during sex, not just empty sex all the time. In your masturbation you learned to disconnect during sex and make it all about you so entitlement might be creeping in significantly. Try to work this out and if you need professional help, seek it out so you can be happy together.
