Sex Addict Dealing With Depression

Ben Seymour - 12/14/2007

Who can I find to help me I have depression I am on meds and I don't feel like they work anymore....I am addicted to sex which I think stems from when I was younger men use to bother me all the time....and I shop all the time to make me feel better then after I do it I don't like what I am doing to us financially...I get drinking binges and want to find someone that has drugs I have popped pills of what I think might do the trick ...I don't do that often but the depression and the sexual addiction leads me to the other...I need help...Id like to talk to someone free online to help me any suggestions?

First I want to commend you on taking the first step and looking for help. This is a defining moment in your life. Change is scary, but necessary.

All the problems you are discussing are related to one another. It definitely sounds as though you have issues with addiction and need long term treatment. I would recommend researching different treatment options that meet your needs. I suggest finding a program that treats drug and sexual addictions. Treatment may be too expensive for you to afford alone. In this case I would recommend holding a family meeting or contacting family members individually to ask for assistance. If your family is not able to help or there is past trauma between you and them, here are some free options you can seek today:

  1. Narcotics Anonymous
  2. Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous

You can call information at 411, say the name of your town and ask for Narcotics Anonymous. They will give you a phone number. That number will outline the meetings in your area so that you can start attending. I recommend going to as many meetings as you can. Identify yourself as a new comer and other members will introduce themselves to you. Follow the suggestions outlined in these programs. I would also recommend finding a therapist in your area. Make sure the therapist understands addiction, sexual-addiction and is 12-step friendly. If you have any further questions or need resources addicted.com is a great resource or feel free to contact me through this site. Ben Seymour
