Could there be reasons for being a sexual addicted other than environmental? My friend has gone to numerous counseling sessions and rehab stints, and feels like his childhood was great and he can't find anything traumatic that happened to him. He also hasn't done anything immoral or illegal, as if to act out some control issue, he just needs to have sex all the time. Could this person actually have a medical condition?
Yes, it is possible he is just a biological sex addict. They don't have abuse backgrounds. He would be more like the monkey pushing the cocaine button. Now if he was just hypersexual he would then be emotionally present during sex. If he is addicted he would be more disconnected during sex. It's hard to say which is which. If he were addicted, he would need a support group for recovery. As far as medical, some people with depression, cyclethimia or bipolar disorder sometimes use sex to medicate a neurological imbalance. He can get evaluated if he wishes.
