My mother has been an alcoholic as long as I can remember. I have been drinking pretty steady for about 10 months now. I seem to have a very addictive personality; okay my question is will I ever be able to drink socially, if I quit?
Have you ever tried to drink socially? With an addictive personality and your mom being an alcoholic, it's rare that you are able to drink socially.
I would suggest quitting if you feel that drinking is taking control of your life. At the least, try to control your drinking. If that does not work, I would suggest going to a 12 step program and learning how to stay sober and enjoy your life without alcohol.
