Q & A

Relapsing on Cocaine and UAs

5/16/2008 12:00:00 AM - Permalink

I have been in IOP at evergreen Manor in Lynnwood, Washington my counselor is Dave he is a ex-meth addict , briefly I had 8 more sections left out of 36 I’ve been going to AA as required and have extra meetings in he discharged me last night because a UA came back pos for cocaine and wants me to go into in-patient, the time I took the UA there was several other UA being taken he sorted the UA out put the labels on them he says I’m in denial and lying I haven’t even seen, touched, etc cocaine since 2006, it all started about a couple of weeks ago, then I made a statement to another counselor about Dave telling the group that he will not be here because he was having teeth pulled and that when he returned after the dentist visit he told the group he got a prescription for vicaden and that he could have had oxys I thought his statement to the group is a trigger and a relapse for him he started messing with me ever since i said that i should mention there is a few more incidents he started skipping over me in group discussions, there is a cute girl in class that took a liking to me and now she sits by him, comments and talks all the time out of tern, one more thing I relapsed early in the program and told him he gave me a UA it came back neg. i smoked pot, he told us in three meetings that we put the bar/stickers on the UA and put it in the bag he was doing it for some reason this time and the end results is after it left my hands I don’t know what happened after notifying me of a pos UA I flatly denied doing any drugs and asked to be retested his answer to that was he would test the same UA again, I’m on probation out of some tuff courts, I have all ready went to in-patient treatment back in Dec. should i go back to in-patient it would be only to avoid jail time, call Dave up and basically lie to him and make-up a story that I did relapse on coke??? I am serious I haven’t done anything since the first reported relapse, ask my probation to switch treatment centers I’m willing to take UAs all day and every day, I am very depressed and feel that I’m a victim of a counsel that’s in denial himself.

First things first. When jail time is in the formula, you should watch the UA samples extremely close to make sure the samples are processed correctly. Being early in recovery, hooking up with girls in your groups is one of the last things you want to do. This will not keep you sober. You seem to be focusing on everything but your program. I would recommend going back to day one. Continue to attend your meetings, but also find a sponsor. Focus on getting and staying sober. When you succeed on your sobriety, you can focus on relationships. In regards to the staff, nobody is perfect. Knowing this, take whatever the staff has to offer as additional tools to staying sober. Good luck.

Getting and Staying Off Crack

Do you know of any medications for crack addiction? My husband stayed sober for 37 days on his own, but relapse yesterday. I read that antabuse and baclofen are helpful. Do you have a doctor that you would recommend? Thank you, Michelle.

Michelle

I am not a medical doctor so I can not give you any medical advise.

However, your husband was able to stay sober for 37days on his own. Have you thought about him attending a 12step program or AA meetings where he can get support and understanding from people who have successfully stayed of crack.

I have been sober for over 19yrs and I used crack for a long time. 12step programs and AA meetings have helped me tremendously.

Goodluck, Marty
