Relapses in the very beginning may occur. Turning a relapse into research is very important to keep you from making the exact same mistake again. Researching your relapse takes rigorous honesty. If you relapse, ask yourself the following questions.
- What were your feelings prior to acting out?
- What red flags did you pass up?
- What tools in your recovery did you chose not to use?
- How many days have you been planning this event?
- Relapsing takes time, energy and sometimes money. What was the significance or importance to this acting out event for you?
- At what point did you begin to feel "powerful" over you addiction?
- Have you regularly been doing the five commandments the week prior to acting out?
- What have you learned about yourself in this relapse?
- What have you learned about your addiction?
